How to Clean Walking Boots: Step-by-Step

1. Prepare Your Boots

Remove the insoles and laces. Shake out any loose dirt or debris to avoid damaging the lining or membrane.

2. Remove Dirt

Use a specialist cleaner like Grangers Footwear + Gear Cleaner, along with a soft brush and lukewarm water, to gently remove mud and grime. Avoid aggressive scrubbing, especially on leather.

3. Reproof and Condition

While the boots are still damp, apply Grangers Footwear Repel to restore water resistance and protect the material. This helps close the fabric’s pores after cleaning and prevents water from soaking in. Pay extra attention to seams, stitching and eyelets for full coverage.

4. Dry Carefully

Let your boots air dry at room temperature. Avoid radiators, direct heat or sunlight, as this can damage and shrink the material. Stuffing with newspaper can help absorb moisture and maintain shape.

5. Check the Finish

Once dry, test the surface. If water beads on the material, your boots are properly protected.
